Eternal Waters

Gone Sailing Adventures provides a means of releasing cremated remains onto the sea*. We provide a compassionate way of ensuring that ashes scattered at sea are done in a legal, respectful and orderly manner.

With our scattering services at sea, the family/friends bring their loved one's ashes, aboard our boat and then set off for waters just west of the Toronto Islands. Once there, mourners may perform last rites as they please – with music, a clergy-led memorial, or individual reflections. Prior to leaving the area, the captain will then make a figure eight with the boat, first counter clockwise remembering the life lived and then clockwise to represent that time continues to move forward. While completing the symbol of infinity the ships bell will ring eight times, signifying the end of the watch, as one final token of respect and farewell to the departed.

Upon request, we provide a Certificate of Sea Scattering containing the exact location where the remains were released. This way, families may revisit the site whenever they wish and pay their respects to their loved one. 

Sails are available for attended scatterings, and revisiting of the dispersal site. Let us know your specific service needs, and we will accommodate them. You’re assured that your loved one's final journey is complete. All services are also available for pet scattering.

Services are  held at 8:00 am for approximately 75 minutes, as the water is calmest at this time of day. Sunrise, Mid-day, and Sunset sails are also available**.

*Releasing Ashes onto the waters of Lake Ontario using a biodegradable container is permitted according to Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statute.
